NEW JERSEY, March 21, 2017 - The National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA) congratulates Noel Francisco on his nomination for the position of Solicitor General of the United States, which was announced by the White House on March 7, 2017. If confirmed, Francisco will be not only the first Filipino American, but also the first Asian American confirmed by the Senate to serve as Solicitor General of the United States.

“Noel Francisco has a distinguished career as a litigator and public servant. NFALA is a proponent of increased representation by Filipino Americans at the highest levels of leadership in the legal profession, and we congratulate Mr. Francisco on his nomination,” said NFALA President Jhanice V. Domingo, Esq.

Since January, Francisco served as Principal Deputy Solicitor General and later as Acting Solicitor General until his recent nomination.  Prior to this latest tenure at the Justice Department, he was a partner in the Washington, D.C. office of Jones Day, where he was Chair of the firm’s Government Regulation Practice Group.  Previously, Francisco served in the Office of Counsel to the President as Associate Counsel to President George W. Bush and as Deputy Assistant Attorney General in the U.S. Department of Justice, Office of Legal Counsel.  Francisco was raised in Oswego, New York. He holds a B.A. and J.D. from the University of Chicago, and clerked for Judge J. Michael Luttig of the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals and for Justice Antonin Scalia of the United States Supreme Court.  NFALA looks forward to the Senate Judiciary Committee hearings on the nomination to learn more about Francisco's views on the highly important civil and human rights issues that are facing our nation.

ORGANIZATIONAL STATEMENT

THE NATIONAL FILIPINO AMERICAN LAWYERS ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR UNITED AND VIGILANT OPPOSITION TO PRESIDENT TRUMP’S JANUARY 27, 2017 EXECUTIVE ORDER WHICH PROMOTES HOSTILITY TOWARD IMMIGRANTS AND REFUGEES

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: January 31, 2017
CONTACT:  NFALA President | Jhanice V. Domingo, Esq. | jdomingo@einhornharris.com

NEW JERSEY, January 31, 2017 - The National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA) denounces President Trump’s recent Executive Order signed on January 27, 2017. The Order suspends entry of all refugees into the United States for 120 days, bans Syrian refugees from resettling in the United States indefinitely, and blocks citizens from seven predominantly Muslim countries from entering the United States for at least 90 days -- even individuals who have already been granted permission to be in our country. The Executive Order unfairly discriminates based on race, religion, and national origin, and is directly contrary to the very fabric of our nation. Our country was founded on religious freedom and we must embrace immigrants, and especially those who flee from persecution or violence in their home country. Federal courts are already recognizing that under the Executive Order, there will be substantial and irreparable injury to refugees, visa-holders, and other individuals from nations subject to the Order. Filipino immigrants constitute one of the largest foreign-born groups in the United States and NFALA stands together with the diverse communities of our nation. History should teach us that policies rooted in fear and ignorance can -- at times -- pass when its citizens are divided and remain silent to prejudicial policies ushered through in the name of national security. We often hear the quote that “those that fail to learn from history are doomed to repeat it.” NFALA urges you to have your voice heard and join NFALA’s Call to Action.
