Resolution Adopting Positions on Hate- and Bias-Motivated Acts, LGBTQ Equality, and Commonsense Immigration Reform

WHEREAS the National Filipino American Lawyers Association (NFALA) is a national association of Filipino‐American attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students dedicated to promoting the professional development, interests, and success of Filipino‐American legal professionals nationwide; and NFALA is the voice for the national Filipino‐American legal community and strives to fight for equal opportunity and the rights of underserved minority groups;
WHEREAS the National Asian Pacific American Bar Association (NAPABA) is the national association of Asian Pacific American attorneys, judges, law professors, and law students, representing the interests of over 50,000 attorneys and approximately 75 national, state and local Asian Pacific American bar associations; NAPABA members include solo practitioners, large firm lawyers, corporate counsel, legal service and non-profit attorneys, and lawyers serving at all levels of government; and NAPABA is committed to addressing civil rights issues confronting Asian Pacific American communities and people of color;
WHEREAS NAPABA has issued policy statements that also concern the Filipino American community;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, THAT NFALA:
1. Adopts the policy statements described below and attached to this resolution, and that those statements constitute part of this resolution:
a. Statement Opposing Hate- and Bias-Motivated Acts
b. Statement of Support for LGBTQ Equality
c. Statement in Support of Commonsense Immigration Reform
2. Authorizes its president, board, and staff to communicate the content of this resolution to its members, affiliate and associate organizations, other bar associations, members of Congress, the Administration, the press, and others.
3. Authorizes its president and president-elect to take steps to implement this resolution, as they deem necessary, in consultation with the advocacy committee.
3. Supports this resolution as a policy priority until it is withdrawn or modified by subsequent resolution.
